BICYCLE DRIVER TRAINING DEVICE
( See It In Action)

Bowers Farm is the inventor of the bicycle driver training device shown below. Our list of better known buyers includes Ames Percheron Hitch, Parelli Natural Horsemanship, Messersmith Draft Horses, The College of Southern Idaho, and The Draft Horse Journal.

Just as there are many different breeds of horses to choose from when assembling a hitch of horses, so it is with our bicycle hitches. The Natural Gait in northeast Iowa and the College of Southern Idaho have both chosen to purchase black 26" wheel 15 speed mountain bikes. You can see a picture of the 4-up that went to the College of Southern Idaho being test driven on our golf cart in the pictures below.

The four-up you see on the front of the golf cart above is made up of four matching patriot colored 20" single speed BMX style bikes. Pat Parelli, Draft Horse Journal, and Messersmith Draft Horses think that these bikes seem to be about the right size to look good on the front of a golf cart. Being smaller, they store a little easier than bigger bikes, and their smaller size makes them a little lighter to push when they are used with a push pole as seen in the picture below (push pole and push pole belt or golf cart tongue are included with the kits we sell). We can provide picture and directions for converting your golf cart from steering wheel to rein steer as ours is. The steering wheel is removed and the golf cart steers by a tongue (much like a tongue on a horsedrawn vehicle) which attaches to the bikes. The golf cart then goes where the bicycles are steered, by the reins. The sensation when driving is very similar to the feeling of being pulled in a vehicle by a team of horses, but the bicycles are being pushed by the golf cart.

When first learning the skills of driving multipe hitches, it is highly recommended that you use the push belt and push pole provided with these kits. The golf cart goes fast enough that you can get yourself into a spectacular wreck if you attempt to drive it without having the proper skills in place. Be sure to read about the new driving competition using our bikes on a push pole on our "Latest News" page (accessed off the "Home" page).

Above, you can see our hitch of miniature bicycles. We made these little guys for those times when we need a four or six up that will haul with our luggage on an airplane. They take up very little space when in use, which makes them ideal for small rooms and narrow corridor use. They drive very similar to the larger bikes, proving to be just as effective as the bigger bikes for the purpose of learning to drive a four up, six up (or tandem, or unicorn, or random) of horses. The bigger size bicycles with their bigger wheels are better for rough terrain use. If you are planning to someday have a bicycle hitch on a golf cart, you'll want to buy our 20" BMX bikes or the 26"mountain bikes shown below.

Bicycle Four Up Includes:

Four new bicycles, cleared of new bike decals and outfitted with great looking "Bowers Farm" logo decals.
Rein attachment rings and clamps on handlebars
"Hame rings" that clamp onto seat posts
Lateral joining bars that attach to bike frame by our new "pin through" method - very strong, simple, light weight and flexible. These pairs of bicycles exhibit all of the longitudinal alignment characteristics of real pairs of horses, so they need the driver to know how to make the same corrections for longitudinal alignment problems as required on horses. With one quick pull of a pin, the bikes are completely ready to be ridden.

Swing pole connecting the wheelers and leaders.

Push pole to rear lateral joining bar, which causes forward movement of the bicycles as the driver steps forward.

Push pole belt with attaching bracket.

Leader and wheeler coupling reins custom made to have perfect lateral alignment with the spacing between the bicycles. These reins are nylon with snaps at the handlebar rings for easy removal, and they have 4' of "beta" rein material for hand parts of the reins. Leather hand parts in 3/4" or 1" width is also available.

All custom couplers and hitch pins needed. All coupling and hitching hardware painted black.

Test Driven by experienced driver
